Paul Brienen is the Engineer of Record for the centerpiece of the Town Center development on Bridgeport Avenue in University Place. Key elements to this project include a three-story glass-enclosed atrium with wood-trimmed front bents, a feature lobby fireplace, and a central elevated roof section that continues down the spine of the structure with curved glulam beams and tongue-and-groove decking. This 61,000 square foot facility houses the offices for the City, a Pierce County Public Library, and has street-level commercial spaces. This project was developed by the City to serve as the first phase of significant public and private development in this area.
The building is a steel frame with concrete-on-metal deck floors and a concrete core wall lateral system. Schedule was a significant project priority for this project, with all construction team members streamlining were possible. The use of full-height self-consolidating concrete to cast the core walls three stories tall in a single pour provided significant construction schedule savings and contributed to the overall success of the project.
