This single-family home in Northern Virginia consists of 14,000 SF of sleek contemporary architecture. The project includes a subterranean movie theater, a two-story glazed curtain wall, an atrium, and large cantilevered balconies. The client selected 9' × 3' tile slabs throughout the residence and sliding glass doors up to 32 feet wide. Additionally, the main living spaces feature an open-concept layout measuring 25 feet wide.

The demanding requirements of this building required close attention to structural deflection to avoid cracking of finishes or binding of doors. SGI Structural identified these challenges early during the schematic design phase and worked closely with the client to evaluate various construction techniques. Concrete, steel, wood, and CLT were all considered; ultimately, a hybrid system combining prefabricated wood trusses and steel was selected.

SGI Structural also provided additional construction administration services, assisting the client with site preparation for steel erection and facilitating regular coordination meetings among multiple design disciplines and construction trades.
