Located in Washington’s Foggy Bottom neighborhood, this project combines two structures in one. The main building is a five-story structure with a penthouse, classified as a Type IA podium with Type III construction above. The rear structure is a large, four-story carriage house classified as Type IIIB.
The structure was carefully designed by SGI Structural to provide an efficient combination of existing masonry walls, new steel bar joists with concrete deck, and traditional wood framing.
SGI Structural provided essential support during the construction phase, including temporary bracing to ensure safety and stability. Additionally, the team facilitated the removal of a brick wall supporting the stairs, allowing for necessary structural modifications to accommodate the client’s requirements.
Throughout the construction process, SGI Structural remained flexible, adjusting design elements as needed when existing conditions differed or when the client’s needs changed. This collaborative approach ensured that the project met the client’s expectations while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
